I INDEPENDENTLY "DISCOVERED" CONCRETE MUSIC IN 1964 AFTER MY FATHER BROUGHT
HOME A 3" REEL-TO-REEL TAPE RECORDER FOR ME (age 9 or 10). W/ VARIABLE PITCH
CONTROL, A LITTLE LAPEL MIC, SCISSORS & SCOTCH TAPE, I WAS ABLE TO PRODUCE
MANY FINE VOCAL/ELECTRONIC EFFECTS & TONE (FEEDBACK) POEMS/MUSIC. I WISH I
COULD FIND THOSE REELS. CONSUMED, NO DOUBT. I AM REALLY APPRECIATING THOSE
NAIVE EXPERIMENTS AS I "FORGE" AHEAD WITH NON-LINEAR EDITING AND RAW WAVE
AND NOISE SOURCES.
MULCH REALLY HAS BEEN SOMETHING I HAVE ENJOYED LATELY BECAUSE, EVEN THOUGH
I'M LUGGING A TOWER, I JUST CAN'T (OR WON'T)AFFORD A SIMILARLY POWERED
LAPTOP, THE LIVE APPLICATIONS HAVE BROUGHT BACK TO ME THE IMPROVISATIONAL
ELEMENTS OF COMPUTER MUSIC THAT SEQUENCERS (don't own a sequencing program,
except some old ones for the amiga and vic-20) CAN'T GIVE. NOT ENOUGH NOTES,
ANYWAY.
I MUST SAY, THOUGH, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT OTHER DSP PGMS FOR THE PC ARE
AVAILABLE. AFTER A DECADE & A HALF ABSENCE FROM COMPUTER MUSIC I AM UNSURE
OF WHAT IS OUT THERE.
I ALSO HAVE GREAT FUN WITH VAZ & GENERATOR, C-SOUND IS SOMETHING I'D LIKE TO
MASTER, BUT I JUST DON'T HAVE THE TIME OR PATIENCE FOR PROGRAMMING RIGHT
NOW. GIMME A QUICK FIX, PLEASE.
