re AC and other sounds

When I was younger, I used to spend hours singing along to the humm of my 
mothers Vacuum cleaner.
When I learned to play guitar much later..I discovered that the Cleaner was
putting out a G, and I would often use it as a drone and play against it.
Check out the first song on Philip Glass's 'songs from liquid days' (I dont 
remember the song title, but the lyrics are by paul simon). Two people 
searching for a hum in the room.."maybe its the hum of changing opinions"!!
