RE: [microsound] re AC and other sounds
around 12 years ago I was flying back from London and had an experience
that was very perplexing...I was sitting there in the hum and roar of the
747 cabin reading my book when I noticed a faint strain of marimba music
(marimba and bass, guitar, percussion) wafting in and out...I looked around
and nobody was wearing walkman headphones and nobody had left any
headphones lying on their seat plugged into the armrest connector...I
couldn't figiure out where it was coming from so I continued reading...I
kept hearing the marimba music but I also noticed that the piece was not
coming to an end after 20 minutes or so...but there was melodic and
harmonic development and held together as a piece of music (ie I wasn't
mistaking any peripheral sound for being marimba music)...now I was totally
perplexed and asked my wife if she heard it...she didn't hear what I was
hearing...I described the music and even hummed along with it so she might
recognize it and she still couldn't hear anything resembling music at
all...the only explanation I could come up with (and something I had read
somewhere) is that this phenomenon is created by the brain organizing noise
for long periods of time and that it is most common with people involved in
music and audio...has anyone had a similar experience?
???
