the biology of speech and sound...
a,
Thank you for the interesting point. By using the word "lecture" I was
trying to convey a level of attention span. The comparison was made under
the assumption that the idea of lecture commands a certain level of
intrigue. I wasn't necessarily attempting to defy the laws of biology,
although, I do believe that even in speech, levels of voice vibration can
penetrate and sink into the mind walls much like any sound that carries a
certain frequncy (read: all sound). It is the hypnosis state that such
rhythm's create as they coast around and within. This can just as easily
derive from speech. Hence the notion/tool of the sample. In many cases
words are streched; pulled at from every-which direction; altered in pitch
and expanded in reach (read: playing with silly putty). The final product
might have originated from the intro of the Biology Prof.'s lecture on
Osmosis <-- perhaps a relevant example ;) however, the surge of sound you
capture as the listener might bring you to a state far from that which you
would have reached in BIO 101.
Off on a damn tangient again... Not very minimalist of me ;) My original
point was that in music, or any passion you might have, the devotion of
attention effects the eventual perception of that passion. For some, it
might be in book, in television, in sunset... in school. I was merely
trying to paint a picture of the level to which I listen to certain sounds.
One which allows me to absorb and understand to the point of making out a
certain emotional state. It is a most rewarding way to appreciate music,
and the composer who births it.
