When people haven't got a chance to hear things "for themselves" before they
buy I would say a source such as The Wire is a lot better than a lot of other
stuff to help guide me through the incredible amount of records/CDs being
released every week/month.
People can only judge for themselves if they've actually bought the record, but
no one (AFAIK) buys records without some kind of guidance from someone or
somewhere. The Wire isn't the holy gospel, but it's certainly a very valuable
source/tool for a lot of people who have a hard time getting hold of "CD
purchasing information".
Try living in Norway for a month and you'll see just how much fun it is to have
more or less no access to experimental music what-so-ever. In a situation like
that The Wire is indispensable.

Shouldn't a statement like that be qualified for other people to pick up on it?
The good thing about The Wire is that they try to describe and explain *why*
things are bad/OK/very good/excellent. I can't possibly relate to a statement
that basically says "it's good" without some kind of explanation as to why it's
OK.
