Hem is Kamal Joory of Nottingham who choose this name for his work in
minimal ambient click and pop style. It's composed from the junk side of
music - the unwanted sounds that are usually thrown away when composing
through digital means. Hem belongs at the innovative edge of popmusic,
where we also find Oval, Nacht Plank, Microstoria and Kohn.

Besides Hem, Kamal records are Geiom, which is more traditional beat
oriented music with clear structure and melodies. With Lee Norris of Nacht
Plank he records a cross-over between his own Geiom music and Metamatics
(the other project of Norris) music as Consumer Durable.

Kamal co-runs a club in Nottingham, called Deselect. This is a live
electronic event that runs for over 2 years now - our performers have
included autechre, plaid, freeform, clatterbox, team doyobi, mira calix,
vendor refill, hia, infant and geiom

Kamal is currentely involved in various label activities such Meir which
released one 12" and a forthcoming CD compilation of bands that performed
at Deselect in 1999 and small medium. This label is linked to Neo Ouija,
from Lee Norris of Nacht Plank (see Microwave 006) and have just released a
CDR of collaborative work by Hem and Nacht Plank.

This CDR is now available in an edition of 222 copies. Hem also has a track
on the forthcoming Microwave compilation: Microwave - A Manual (M010),
which will soon be available.
