Re: [microsound] ars prix

some of you may interested in entering something>>>>>

This is an inquiry to see if you would be interested in having any of
your musical works nominated for our international competition by the
cybernetic sound and DIGITAL MUSICS jury for the annual ARS

Electronica Festival in Linz , Austria. For the last twenty years this
unique arts event has sponsored a broad range of participants from
every field (interactive, sculptural, robotics, computer animation

& effects, internet, performance arts, installations, radio-tv-film,
social/political symposiums, graphics, digital media, experimental and
electro-acoustic musiks etc,). With the Prix Ars Electronica, the
worlds highest prized competition for computer and multimedia art, the
ORF in Upper Austria continues its commitment and initiatives for
promoting artistic, creative and scientific uses of digital media in
the third millennium. Computer artists around the world are once
invited to send their works to Linz to compete for the Golden Nicas,
Awards of Distinction and Honorary Mentions.

For the most part the ARS stance in these genres has been a provocative
one - to promote those who pioneer these forms towards true innovation
and meaningful content.

But to keep the interest in these intentions intact a broader spectrum
of radical influence needs to be sought and brought to bear in a forum
dedicated to presenting fresh ideas.

A CyberMusics jury that convenes for three days in earlyApril to award
$20,000 (US) to a winner and two distinctions collectively.

Total prize money "Digital Musics": US-$ 21,551 (Euro 18.168)

1 Golden Nica: US-$ 12,931 (Euro 10.901)

2 Awards of Distinction: US-$ 4,310 (Euro 3.633) each and up to 12
Honorary Mentions

A yearly hardcover "CyberArts" book is published for Europe and North
America (along with video's and an audio CD) which illustrates the
artists works and philisophical findings of the depicted jury
panelists.

Other catagories for the Prix Ars Competition besides music are:

..Net (wild internet websites)

Interactive Arts (screen based VR to real time performance setups from
art, science and entertainment fields),

Visual Effects/Computer Animation (major and independent films or ads
etc).

Total prize money for all categories = $116,379 (US). The organizer is
the Austrian Broadcasting Company, Upper Austrian Regional Studios
(ORF) who has been sponsored by Siemens Nixdorf, Voest-Alpine Stahl,
the City of Linz, the Province of Upper Austria and Gerhard Andlinger &
Company etc.

Each nominee may enter one piece, which has been created/ realized
within the last two years.

All the nominees will be looked at according to the following criteria:

Aesthetics

Originality

Compelling conception

Innovation in the special expression of sonic imagination

Technique and quality of the presentation

Nominations can be entered on CD, DAT and/or video by a member of the
jury who presents the nomination according to how the nominee WISHES to
be represented.
