interesting site for essay's on sound
hello all,
while doing some research on the ethnography of listening I found this site
by ultra-red http://www.comatonse.com/ultrared/lm.html. I thought it might
be of interest too some of you who were talking about jacques attali,
douglas kahn and other media thinkers about a month back. I haven't read any
of the articles yet, just cause I am searching for specific essays in my
research but glancing at the bibliographies of the essays, the writers have
quoted luigi russolo, Theodor Adorno, guy debord, rosa luxemborg and Rick
Altman. It looks interesting to me.
I got the chance to read douglas kahn's 'three receivers' and really
benefited from it. the topic of this short essay was how william s.
burroughs would listen to three radios at once in order to discover new
words, languages and messages from the underground. Kahn also talked about
the portable orgone machine burroughs carried from home to home, which also
was also responsible for new discursive creations. Kahn made some really
interesting points about ideological methods of listening, which burroughs
tried sodomistically to tamper with. great short read.
-this article can be found in TDR, the drama review 40, 3 Fall 1996.
if you get a chance to look at this journal there are also articles by
jerome noetinger (?spl?) and christof migone. The issue had a special theme
of writings on experimental approaches to radio and music. its worth taking
a looking at.
anyway goodnight
