Yes !, first of all don't worry about trying to make your own instruments.. 
Get your hands on the amazingly great pre-fab ensembles such as beat breaker 
or 6 pack, etc
and load in your own sample maps...hours of mesmerizing right brained fun 
will ensue..
But then again i also enjoy using guitars and drums that other people built , 
so  i spare myself the agony of drwing all those lil' lines just to get a 
sine wave going !
