Taylor Deupree's .n on ritornell

oh just run right out and get this. i'm enjoying the heck out of it. the
ritornell series has been pretty hit and miss for me, but .n's spacious
mixture of erratic hums, constellating static, and digital errata
definitely hits in so many different ways. the "microsound" approach
sometimes suffers either from a lack of movement or from *too much*
movement -- that is, in either respect, a lack of compositional focus
(scientists in the recording studio). taylor really manages a fantastic
balance here (at least according to my definition of balance) between
interesting and engaging, which i find few releases of this sort manage.
this is up there with the *0/r collaboration, which was one of my favorite
releases of '99.

excellent job taylor! :)
