Re: [microsound] re:music presentation

i was mentioning ars electronica because (correct me if i'm wrong)
historically it has awarded more 'classic/academic' electroacoustic
works than the more 'populist' approach that mego & raster-noton are
taking (mego won the golden nica last year). then again, it is probably
one of the most progressive awards in the field, as this year's results
(which had me very surprised, but not unpleased with) demonstrate.

i was initially quite happy to hear of this award as well.. but i must admit that i was a bit disapointed when i found out the board of voters included robin rimbaud, spooky, and kodwo eshun.. while all very respectable artists/writers.. they're also very close to carsten and this field of music.. they're all basically carsten's contemporaries and peers.. which i guess in a way dimishes the "historical" or "classic/academic" notion of the award..

am i making any sense?

i guess what i'm trying to say is that i'd be a little more impressed if the board of voters were people carsten didn't know at all.. or old fart dignitaries or something.. as opposed to a bunch of his friends..

but, fortunatley, it doesn't dimish my love for the series or my appreciation of carsten as an artist!
