Re: [microsound] aube...
Aube... only heard a couple of short mp3's, can anyone recommend a good
place to start with his full length releases?
i'd recommend _cardiac strain_ if you can find it - although an easy way of
jumping in the pool hip-deep would be to get _substructural penetration_, a
double CD of comp tracks in his various oeuvres, although it does tend to
the noisier side of things. if you find the _shiroseasons_ comp (shirocoal
recordings), it has a very nice and subtle (long) aube track and some nice
work from kiyoshi mizutani (rustlings and drones, almost this-listy), small
cruel party (organic, crackly noise), and daniel menche (playing his
trademark Anvils-of-Hell in a somewhat reflective mood).
aube is interesting until you begin to realize that he's essentially a
one-trick pony; some of his tracks, especially the noisiest and quietest are
good and can hold my interest, but i find that the vast majority of the
stuff he puts out is just dull as a post. in short - (start loop)(increase
volume slowly for 10 minutes)(stop first loop)(start second, similar loop,
let run for 2 minutes, end track).
i hear that the vinyl LP on alien8 is good.
