RE: [microsound] Which laptop...?
I apologize for backtracking on topics but I believe I have a question for
any
producers on the list. I have been producing audio for a few years now and
have worked with MIDI gear for much of that time. In the past several years
my interest in experimental music/ microsound etc. has lead me to the
computer
for sound development. I work in a rather small collective of producers
and often do not get the opportunity to discuss technique and process within
a large community. So I am curious what process many of you have adopted to
create sounds and construct and arrange tracks. I have given some
consideration to working exclusively within a computer environment,
but miss the tactile production process of a hardware sampler. I also have
had some thoroughly frustrating experiences with computer production.
I believe that computer music has essentially developed the language
of microsound in many ways. Do any of you feel it conceptually or
theoretically
important to the final product, to work exclusively within the realm of the
computer
or do any of you work with hardware samplers? Does working with a hardware
sampler affect the outcome of the product? I have wrestled with the
software/hardware issue for some time, both for practical reasons as well
as theoretical. I have yet to come to any concrete conclusions.
Any thoughts?
