Scanner refers to electronic communications highways as the basis for his
aural collages and found conversations. As musician, writer, and minimalist
anti-hero, Scanner (aka Robin Rimbaud) is situated at the crossroads of
academic and digital pop culture. The range of his work is vast - composing
the soundtrack for the Delta Ballet at the Paris Opera House, contributing to
Bryan Ferry's recent album, and performing alongside Laurie Anderson. These
projects point to Scanner's ability to work as comfortably within a music as
in art evident in his collaborations with notable artists such as Mike Kelly
and Tim Head. Surface Noise, a form of an urban phonogeography was recently
commissioned by multi-media producers Artangel in London, and led to his
being awarded the ICA Imaginaria Award. His work has been presented within
exhibitions such as Sonic Boom at the Hayward Gallery, London and in tours
with DJ Spooky. This presentation marks the introduction to a developing
project with WPA\C for Spring 2001. This project is made possible with
support from The British Council.
