Re: [microsound] online material
hello,
i´m doing a bit of research on relationships between new electronic music
and architecture, artists who are particularly ´sound-spatial´, and venues
or installations concerned with related issues. ambiguity acknowledged, can
anybody recommend some good online resources in this area?
joel.

hi.
these might be helpful:
string by KUNSTWERK-BLEND
a multispatial/multimedia web-based piece
for movement performer, theremins player, live camera
operator and video projections operator which is
simultaneously presented in two different physical
locations and includes live webcast
28 July 2000 (19.30GMT or 20.30 UK time)
string includes:
1. a live performance event as part of Between Nature
Conference (Installation Village, Lancaster
University, Lancaster,
UK, http://www.lancs.ac.uk/users/csec/betweennature/)
2. a live projection event at the Bar of
Broadway Cinema (Nottingham, UK, info

3. a double netcast hosted by moon radio
moon radio is a collaborative project developed by
active ingredient and trampoline to research and
develop the potential for using live streaming to
present artists work live on the internet. moon radio
is funded by the arts council and emmi. this broadcast
is presented as part of moon radio's research and
development project and we welcome feedback. please

webcast at www.moonradio.co.uk.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inspired by Gaston Bachelard's POETICS OF SPACE,
string, which is a performance/installation,
investigates interpretations of 'inside' and 'outside'
in the notion of space. The piece uses the
mathematical concept of hypercube as the basis of a
visual/sculptural sound score and video projections
that challenge assumptions about perspective, surface
and depth in live performance (information about the
hypercube can be found at
http://www.math.ohio-state.edu/~fiedorow/math655/hypercube.html)
string brings together a solo dancer, a theremin
player (who uses two theremins and electronics), a
live video camera operator and a ?video editor? who
works live during the performance (information about
theremins can be found at http://thereminworld.com).
The quartet works in two different physical locations
(dancer and video editor in location A and musician
and camera operator in location B). The sound created
by the musician in location B, accompanied by the
video image of the reflection of the movement of his
hands is transmitted through live webcast and becomes
accessible on a dedicated webpage. Received in
location A, the sound of this webcast creates a sonic
environment for the solo dance performance whereas the
video images become a ?partner/object? for the dancer
to interact with, as the video editor following a
detailed choreographic score directs them either on
the white back wall of the performance space or the
surface of the white dress of the dancer. For this
presentation Location A is Lancaster University
(Lancaster, UK) and Location B is Broadway Cinema
(Nottingham, UK). The webcast files will be archived
at http://www.moonradio.co.uk and
http://www.ad406.dial.pipex.com)
Through manipulating the threshold between two and
three dimensional considerations of the physical
space, the piece explores connections between the
physical and the virtual. It proposes a hybrid
multi-spatial environment which unfolds within a time
frame strictly defined by the travelling of digital
information between two different physical locations
of the performance.
string has been presented in SHIFTS'00 (Chisenhale
Dance Space, London, UK, January 2000,
http://www.choreograph.net) and will be presented
again in Performative Sites Conference (Pennsylvania,
USA, 26 October 2000,
http://www.outreach.psu.edu/C&I/performativesites )
and in Arts, Sciences et Technologies Conference (La
Rochelle, France, 22 November 2000). A paper entitled
The Theatre of Mixed Means in the age of information
technology will be presented in Music, Environmental
Design and the Choreography of Space Conference in
conjunction with the 12th International Conference on
Systems Research, Informatics and Cybernetics
(Baden-Baden, Germany, 31 July - 5 August 2000,
http://www.shorter.edu/jrhodes/baden/baden/symp200.htm).
