My top 5:
1. Oval - "Systemisch" (Thrill Jockey). This is the record that got me
interested in this style of music, and it's still the one I go back to
as my favorite. So warm, so unbelievable gorgeous in places...and so
harsh yet beautiful all at the same time.
2. Novisad - "s/t" (Tom). Kristian Peters' full-length on Tom. I found
out that he made it all with incredibly lo-fi equipment (something like
a 386 computer!) and all the tracks have a fuzzy, warm,
3rd-generation-tape-loops quality about them. Some are foreboding, some
warm and uplifting, and it makes for a great, balanced record.
3. Vladislav Delay - "Multila" (Chain Reaction) Vladislav Delay is the
mack, you can't see him! His bass draws me in, his polyrhythms keep me interested.
4. Pole - "EP2" (Kiff SM/Matador) It's actually hard to choose between
LP1 and EP2, since they're such a natural progression from one another,
but I guess EP2 has a more consistent feel. They're both great.
5. Tom Steinle - "Summer DSP" (Tom). It took me a while to get into this
little white 10", but I eventually grew to love it. It's beautifully
reconstructed glitchy ambient that sets a mood, meanders around in it
for a while, and ultimately leaves you satisfied.
Hope you find this interesting.
Cheers,
