yeah, this is true for me to... but live Improvisation requires a certain
instantaneous facility because the other important part of playing in
ensemble is that you have to listen to what the other players are doing.
playing ensemble or as some would have it 'black music' is about the live
orchestration of your personal language with other voices... or at least
that's my experience playing. I learned far more about orchestrating sound
the few years I played with Bill Dixon than from all 'traditional'
composition classes I took. the problem I have now is that it takes so long
to voice my instrument, before it was just a matter of placing my hands on
strings, now my voice takes something on the order ten or twenty to one to
process...
