i just had a great idea for a movie. a pop star, say on the level of
britney, is actually intelligent enough to know that she's not talented on
the level that her fame suggests. she's going through a severe personality
crisis trying to be this icon that she is not. she wishes she was stupid
enough to not know these things. she wants nothing more than to be
understood as an artist, yet she knows that this is impossible for all
time. all her ideas and suggestions for her music are politely denied by
the machine that packages her in nice, safe easily-digestible ways. that's
some heavy shit and it weighs on her constantly. perhaps at the end of the
movie there's a bittersweet, unsatisfying victory where she gets to utilize
her ideas (perhaps appalachian folk meets Babyface, it doesn't really
matter), but only because the cultural winds happen to be blowing towards
that end at the moment and her captors would have made her do it anyhow!

sort of like a reverse Salieri (sp), except that 'Mozart' is 'herself'
(whatever that is). she's cursed with the knowledge that she sucks. she's
jealous of the person that she isn't (the self-actualized musician). she
cannot use her fame to her advantage in any meaningful way.

i imagine that this idea has alreayd been done, perhaps in "A Star is
Born." "The Wall" is sorta the same idea, except that it's more focused on
the alienation thing that Floyd managed to do on every LP :)

apologies for the extreme not-listyness of this post. . .just rambling on a
mellow Thursday morning.
