what about other instruments, do they have to be homemade to be good (as in 
'good') iyo?
i recently met joshua kit clayton and joined him for his soundcheck to have 
a look at his patches. he said i should feel free to try them, so i did. i 
mean, i did not only use his patch but also his soundfiles. and - it 
sounded sooo-poor. i couldnt handle it at all even though i fooled around 
with his laptop for something like 20 minutes. and at that point i already 
had some exp. with max.
i'd love to find someone whos into building some live instruments for me. 
no problem with that. i'm incredebly slow in learning applications. esp in 
max theres a tradition in giving away patches/instruments, thats a reason 
why theres maxPlay.

remember milli vanilli? i didnt cry at all when it turned out that they 
dont sing more than kermit the frog does. at least they looked cool.

I was talking recently with Le Quan Nin (I know I spelled that wrong but I
just can't do any better), (he is a French percussionist in the European
free improve seen) And he told me that Both Fennesz and Pita don't write
their own patches. . . (Fennesz words were that he is to lazy to do his own
programming). . . It just seems like what are they doing then? The program
really isn't just the "instrument" (when it comes to Max/MSP), but its the
peace of music itself (that changes in each performance, and can be
improvised on of course), but the creative "stamp" of the Program itself is
too huge to overlook. . . .

I am not of the opinion that if it sounds good it is good (all though if it
doesn't sound good it rarely is good)...  I feel like the computer does so
much already, then to go ahead and use someone else's max patch. . . I'm not
even sure who is "creating" the music. . . .

BTW I mean to be controversial. . . This problem exists beyond Fennesz and
pita, A lot of people are "getting away" with doing very little of the work
to make this music happen. .. .
