Put it in a box with form pads, then leave it in your closet (or somewhere
far from you) Extend cables.

(Or, completely open the case, replace all the fans with ball-bearing types,
or liquid bearing types. you can also experiment with pertier or water
cooler.) 

and do you need the computer up when you "write" your music? Computers can
sleep these days, you know. The main power supply fan stops when sleeping.
You can use "power saving" feature, to force stop HD.

G4 is really loud. iBook is kinda noisy because of the HD.
