i'll explain this a little bit because i think Experience Music Project has
done something really cool. i only hope they expand on this and contract
other artists to do similar work.
allan gowarth (music/sfx guy in LA) designed the audio immersion tunnel,
which is essentially a diamond shaped tunnel where every surface is covered
in speakers (w/subwoofers on the floor). as you walk through the tunnel you
pass through "zones" -- these are areas where you can only hear one set of
speakers being played. (5 or 6 speakers). all the speakers play a 3-minute
loop of audio, all varying in "vibes" and styles slightly but matched
perfectly in sync tempo-wise.. so you have the choice of either standing in
place and listening to a certain groove progress, or progressing from one
groove to the next by walking to the next "zone."
on top of this there are quite a few effects tracks that allan designed
himself which zip around from speaker to speaker, or repeat on circular
loops, etc etc.
i had the pleasure of producing a tune for this thing and i can say
firsthand that it is pretty cool! if you get a chance to see the EMP
electric bus (it tours around the US) then take it.
