Re: [microsound] CUBASE vs. LOGIC - MIDI to AUDIO sync

I love Logic, have used it since version 2.02, and currently run Platinum version 4.1.3 on my G4. Yes, Logic works brilliantly for MIDI and for audio - although I have not yet used both at once in 4.1.3 - but the main reason I upgraded to the currect version was that Logic (not Cubase or Performer or the now-gone Vision) is my instrument and is intuitively familiar to me as a relatively transparent interface between me and musical compositions. But I also know many who have been wedded to Cubase for many years and versions just as happily and productively. What I know from the Logic User Group (and I do suggest joining one for Cubase if you are interested in further answers to such questions) is that the synchronization of audio and MIDI must be set around the inherent latency of the audio interface, and I assume the same is true for Cubase. Emagic has a nice way of locking up Logic with its own interfaces, but I am not sure whether these are present for other interfaces (and I use Midiman/M-Audio for MIDI and audio). As for "professionals," most of those on the Logic list are also using Pro Tools, but really much of the music of which we speak hear is made by amateurs - that is, by people who do not go to the office and sit in front of Logic or Cubase or Reaktor or MAX/MSP all day and derive a paycheck from it. Everyone has different opinions on these topics, but with complex musical software I suggest using the familiar until it proves unable to make the music you wish to bring into the world.

My name is David and I have worked on Cubase all my life (well, since I
graduated from the MMT8's). I enjoy its interface and find my music making
to be quite intuitive on it. I like the idea of Logic's environments but
plan on getting into this later rather than relearning a whole new system
now. My main concern is this:
I've been told by many that even in professional circles it's questioned
whether or not Cubase can even lock its midi and audio events solid. I've
heard that logic has a very simple and very exact system for syncing midi
and audio events without having to correct and constantly re-correct
individual delays, etc..
If I am misinformed about this PLEASE point me in the direction of some
advice for syncing midi and audio in cubase. I would LOVE to use cubases
audio more ( I have a G3 ) if I could only set a master delay level, save
it, and that's that!!!
