"Essays on the Blurring of Art and Life" by Allan Kaprow is a great
extension of Cagean ideas as well as a good way to understand sound and
music in the context of multi-media (in the older sense) artworks...
Speaking of which, I heard a paper presented at a Stanford Tech/Art
symposium a while back that attempted to tie systems theory to the
gesamtkunstwerk and multi-media art of the 1960s. Did anybody else hear
this? This was at the Bill Viola/Char Davies thingie...
