Re: [microsound] microsound future

don't know why everyone equates making money off music with pop music only.
thrill jockey records was the most profitable record company in th US last
year and they deal mostly with indie rock and various forms of instrumental
music thus making it possible for hundreds of artists to spend ALL their
time making music! you certainly won't be able to cover costs off cd
manufactureif you can't sell your music to anyone anymore. however, i want
to make one thing clear and that is that i don't mind napster and other
related softwares it's simply that soon noone will have to buy anything
unless they specifically want to support the artist. who will buy a cd when
they can download the audio and the art for free? very few. and i don't care
who you are or how radical you might be, you need money to make and
disseminate art and if you can't amass the money through the selling of the
art you have to get it another way and that takes time away from the making
of the art . before artists had any control of their property rights they
truly had nothing and were slaves to the musical plantation. if you control
the rights to your own art you control your artistic life financially. it's
got nothing to do with selling out, it has everything to do with controlling
your own musical reality.
