i didn't mean pop music as in what is popular (even though thats what it
means), because of course everything is popular to an extent.

but i was using the term in a more colloquial and common way. i meant pop
music as in "conforming to the standards of accessible music for the
masses." ie: what they play on the radio.

good point, i should've used different wording. but at the same time it is
interesting-- is there a correlation between the fan base of an artist and
their musical output? not saying that the artist would "sell out" but
rather, is it possible for an inaccessible/abstract artist to get as large
of a fan base as say britney spears.
