Perhaps the same way that the slave knows the master
better than the master knows the slave; that's not
exactly the same thing as knowing "where you come
from" or knowing your inverse or opposite, your
mirror/negative/double.  I for one think that perhaps
it's more suitable to read Hemholtz than Schoenberg on
"harmony"....but with a little persistence, one can
read the foundations of music theory in rather little
time, at least a handfull of classics and atextbook or
two.  Fixating on the "relevance" or "usefulness" of
this to the Microsound Lifestyle might tend to
dissuade one from this task; but I think it would
enrich one's sound.  (Texs on electrical engineering,
physics, linguistics, anthropology, and perhaps
philosophy might be more helpful, IMHO.)
