Re: [microsound] vinyl
I guess the message here is that once again, context is everything....it's
interesting how significant even the most apparantly minute environmental
factors can become decisive in thre enjoyment of musical experience....
Beyond that, though, the mastering procedures, the realisation, the mix,
etc might of course be different. For those prone to believe Mr Neve's
assertion that frequencies above the range of nominal "audibility"
(i.e. <20 kHz) nevertheless effect our perceptions in subtle (but
significant) ways, the idea that various analog media such as vinyl *do*
contain important information generally lost to digital
anti-aliasing filtration seems reasonable.
Anyway, glad to know you had a pleasant listening experience....
For all this talk of outrageous gauging by Karlheinz "stuffed-shirt"
Stockhausen, waddya wanna bet that copies of that Helikopter
Streichquartett start surfacing in bargain bins near you in a year or
two, perhaps next to some Taylor Dane, Confederate Railroad, or a
Celine Dion remix??
Delicious!
