touch pads (off topic)

Well, slightly off topic.

I'm building an audio installation and need a lot of touch pads. 
These are going to take a beating as they will be on the floor and 
there will be kids jumping up and down on them. Does anyone out there 
have any suggestions for relatively cheap options or even recipes for 
making your own (they will need to be fairly robust, obviously)? I'm 
US based (although English).
