Re: [microsound] NYC JAPAN

in NYC, you probably already know about
Other Music (new/used, cd/vinyl rec, 15 East 4th ST)
& Kim's (same+video; each store is worth investigating: 85 ave A, 6 St
Mark's Place, 144 bleeker ST., 350 bleeker St.). You should check the east
village Etherea (Ethereo ?) shop (66 ave A bet. 4th & 5th st.), i found rare
glitchy/exp stuff there.
Bleeker street and St Mark's Place are packed with records stores, but not
very micro.

For the shows, check out Tonic (http://www.tonic107.com) or the Cooler, the
Knitting Factory, the Kitchen (more art perfs).
not microsound AT ALL: I don't know if they're still playing that show but
check out Kiki & Herb at Fez: it's a cabaret show with very special covers
of radiohead, wu tang, etc (sounds weird but actually very funny &
refreshing).

For the Art stuff, lots of interesting galleries in chelsea, particularly
the Dia Center for the Arts (548 West 22nd st) and the other galleries
around. Be shure to visit PS1 (in Long Island, 22-25 Jackson Ave at 46th
Ave) a former shool, now dedicated to art, with contemporary exhibitions,
sometimes featuring interesting music...

that's it
hope you'll enjoy the trip (and the preceding ceremony : )
but i guess you have time to get prepared (8 months!!)

cheers
