I'm pretty ignorant of the technical aspects of this, but why exactly? I
master at 4x speed on my CDR, and have not had any problems whatsoever. Is
the more chance of sub-audible quality loss at these speeds? or just more of
a chance that some CD players cannot read the disk due to small errors? I've
run masters at all speeds and can hear no difference. If you burn a coaster,
its obviously immediately... just write another one.

I'd be more concerned with the quality of the CDR media than data transfer
speeds anyhow. Most new media can handle high-speed writers. Like someone
mentioned earlier, go for gold disc's if possible. I generally use Kodak
CDRs.
