I collect all my samples with minidisc, and I use a SONY ECM-MS907 mic, which 
cost around  70 UK Pounds (dont know what that is in dollars, sorry). Ive 
used it to collect the sounds of choirs in churches, band rehearsals, cities, 
and the tiny noises of flies on the shoreline. Good recordings everytime with 
this mic.
