Re: [microsound] mental midi control
I do a lot of work on developing custom MIDI devices. I've found it so
important in my live performance, having many different ways of accessing
the digital domain..not just a mouse. I work using a generic system in
Supercollider or Max/MSP and control it using gestural interfaces which is a
far more emersive performance experience for me and the audience rather than
just sitting behind a laptop. There are no physical connections between my
movements and the sound being produced e.g vibrations (when using MIDI,|I do
have other controllers which work using pitch detection) .... there is a
conversion process between the movements into digital data but I do get
instant sonic feed back and the audience can see more of a physical
relationship to the control I have over the sound. You can see some
interfaces from me and other members of my group "extractor" on our web site
which is by no means up to date ...(sadly in the back log of 'things to
do').. but you can get an idea of our previous work....

If you want to find out more about MIDI controllers and interactive devices
there is quite a comprehensive list at......
