Re: [OT]sampler vs. laptop....qu'est-ce que la differance

is the goal to emulate the sound of a particular sampler?
that seems to be the focus here. why be concerned with the quirks of a sampler, why
not make you own quirk with some software? why be limited by a sampler's memory?
many more options exist for the mac than vsamp as well. max/msp, reaktor, EXS24,
DS-1, battery, LM4, etcetcetc,.
interface - with a sampler, the interface is only an element while programming it,
as far as i know. programming a software sampler usually takes a few seconds. so
interface is basically not an issue. unless turning one dial and pressing a couple
buttons for 10 minutes to set up a few samples is desirable.
the amount of realtime control over these software samplers is much greater.
my akai s2000 used to panic if i tried to change even an envelope in real time.
there are countless plug-ins through which the sampler can be routed.
your entire studio weighs 6 pounds or less.

from sam ash:
The Akai S-6000 could be all the sampler you'll ever need. The unique user interface
and its intuitive use of icons, graphics, pop-up windows and drag down menus makes
navigation quick and easy. $3499.00

a sampler that acts like a computer for the cost of an amazing laptop. i think that
is the same price as the upper model powerbook g4.
