i don't know if anyone has told you yet (i'm kinda late reading my mail) but 
there is a good club in san francisco for what you are looking for:

my only experience with it is as a sit and listener but i enjoyed myself 
thoroughly as such. adult, lusine icl, lexaunculpt, lesser, kid606, blectum 
from blechdom, and gold chains have all played there recently.
