yes, they are same. if you have the element in the plastic case, take it 
off. You can treat it just as other microphone elements -you have to
amplify. but no phantom power. when you bend it, you get voltage to one
direction, you bend the other way, you get voltage in different direction.
it's obvious if you plug it into osciloscope.

interlink.com has piezo sheet, like OHP sheet thin, any size, you can apply
to curbed stuff. they also have conductive rubber, you bend/stretch it and
get voltage, simple. (but you cannot use it as guitar pick-up. somebody has
patent on that "use.")
