max/msp

I have been using Max/MSP for a little over 3 years now...I came to use
Max/MSP after putting in a couple of years of working in
Csound...throughout this time I studied some programming (Pascal and C) but
more importantly dusted off my mathematical skills (and started studying
number theory) so I could implement algorithms for both my (ex)day job as
well as my personal soundwork...I have dabbled a bit in SuperCollider
(another fantastic programming environment) but I prefer Max/MSP because I
have done many many hours of work in this environment and it has become
like a well broken in tool that seems to balance perfectly in your
hand...Max/MSP enables me to slosh data back and forth between the music
and math realms I tend to think in...it also allows me to quickly test out
and play with ideas or code I stumble across like the quadratic residue
sequences I've been toying around with...
my opinion is biased of course as I know many of the people who work for
Cycling 74, but even if they weren't some of the nicest and most talented
people I've met I would still use Max/MSP...
oh yeah, and Gregory is absolutely right about buying Haruki Murakami in
hardback!
anyway, just my 0.02 cents
