csound, max/msp, reaktor

You can download the Tutorial documents for Max/MSP at:

I personally think it's a question not only of what you wisht to
do, but of temperament and task, too. You want to phase vocode
a huge file and lurv the code-based paradigm one finds in academic
computer music where "instruments" and "scores" are separated?
Csound is your liferaft. Are you more interested in using or constructed
software versions of synthesizers and hearing filters that will remind
you of the hardware ones whose knobs you twiddle and don't want to
mess with as much low-level stuff? Reaktor.

Since I actually work with Cycling '74, I think it'd be improper for
me to weigh in on using it, save to say that I wound up using it
because it does things that the other two don't, and (at least for me)
has been a slightly more flexible and quick engine of idiosyncracy.
Perhaps others are better qualified and less encumbered by personal
committments than I am. I'd download the thing - the demo works
for 30 days. Mess with it and read the tutorials. You ought to see
pretty quickly whether or not you're comfortable.
