the 12-note composition for sine's: October 7th, 2001
The 12-note Composition for Sine's is a sound design installation based on the piano composition method of the same name. Adapted for sine wave's to explore the change in the audio properties when multiple sines are played simultaneously. This installation consists of 4 compact disc players, 8 speakers, and the composition divided into 4 sections. The audio will consist of unobtrusive sine waves that move in and out of each other, working with a large range of sound including frequencies that are inaudible to the human ears. Thus, creating an atmosphere that is thought provoking and interactive, due to its acoustic properties.
"Music constructed according to the principle, enunciated by Hauer and Schönberg independently in the early 1920s, of 12-note composition. According to the Schönbergian principle, the 12 notes of the equal-tempered scale are arranged in a particular order, forming a series or row that serves as the basis of the composition. In Schönberg's 'Method of Composing with Twelve Notes Which are Related Only to One Another', the note-row may be used in its original form, or inverted, or retrograde, or retrograde inverted; in each of these forms it may be transposed to any pitch (each note-row may thus have 48 possible forms). All the music of the composition is constructed from this basic material; any note may be repeated, but the order must be maintained. Octave transpositions are permitted. Notes may occur in any voice and may be used chordally as well as melodically. Later developments of 12-note theory introduced the idea of using six-, four- or three-note segments of a row as compositional elements. As originally designed by Schönberg, the method was intended to preclude tonality, though later composers, notably Berg, found ways of using the technique in a tonal context - as indeed did Schönberg himself. "

NEW!!! inerex (stat) RDR.014.CD $10 usd
this is the debut full length cd from inerex, Carlos Archuleta, the mastermind behind inerex and formerly locutus, has created an amazing release that gives any of the current idm/glitch albums i've heard in the last six months a run for their money. (stat) starts with a DRIVING glitch piece (zekit) featuring crisp sounds that makes you want to hear it at top volume, the entire release moves in the broken yet melodic sense of composition that inerex has evolved into, track 4 (chekaut) is a heavy beat piece with very similar to the work being released on WARP, a001(track 11) is a deep atmospheric lull, that rolls into a low static field of sparse electronics. the cd comes to a close with the chime-esque beats of track 17 and the muffled rhythm on track 18 which are both titled under the label "additional.audio", this release is a must for anyone interested glitch beat compositions or post-IDM audio.
