Yup.  Primitives.  It's all part of the dub mythos: incoherent 
near-shamanist electronic prophets (Lee Perry, anyone?) bolstered by epic 
amounts of weed (Marley, Augustus Pablo, Dillinger, Dr Alimantado, etc etc), 
uprooting Jamaica's indigenous riddims, one slapback echo at a time.

And like any myth, it's often misleading and/or false (King Tubby never 
touched the cheeba and allegedly had a fucking dress code in his studio!), 
so the myth serves only as a pop representation of the actual phenomenon.... 
 but to arrive at the 'real' core of the phenomenon, one must first 
approach the myth on its own terms. Or something like that :)
