O Canada

Having tooled around the Banff Centre and elsewhere recently I'd say that the entire Canadian arts establishment might profit from a good kick in the teeth, at least as far as funding goes:

I've met self-described "sound artists" who hardly ever finish pieces and yet manage to receive grant after grant from multiple agencies....

And the bulk of grant money for experimental music goes to professionals, who are arguably putting out the least interesting/relevant material....

It almost seems like the bad old tax shelter days of the Canadian film industry, if you're familiar with that... for the rest of you, it goes something like this: throw lots of money at the domestic film industry, get lots of really bad films ("Porkys" anyone?)

Now, art isn't just about money....

But right now it seems like the most important stuff gets no money at all, which is utterly backwards.

shes recently condemmed the entire artist run culture in Canada
becasue the Toronto max users group was tring to put together a nato work
shop and didnt like the fact that we asked jeremy to host it...
insane women she is!
