You might want to look into David Cope if you have not already.

I attended a lecture by him a couple of years ago and I found his work
interesting while still keeping that quirky California edge. ;)
He has several books including a recent one dealing more with the
aesthetics of algorithmic composition. These books are on my long book
list, so let the list or myself know how you like them!
2000. The Algorithmic Composer Madison, WI: A-R Editions
2001. Virtual Music Cambridge, MA: MIT Press
Speaking of books... I just finished The Closing of the American Mind by
Allan Bloom. Has anyone else read this book? It is great even though I
believe the late Bloom is coming from the conservative position leaning
towards the right (maybe I am wrong, but the first part of the book is
rather funny). I read parts of it before going to my university
unexperience and now that I have been trodden upon thoroughly by State
education I can see clearly the thesis of this book. Of course part of it
is a little dated, but the philosophical section is still interesting. The
next philosophical book I am tackling is Heideggers's Being and Time. I
think I am going to curiously find some interesting ideas in that tick with
me... Erm...
Eh... Just got back from hiking to Sykes hot springs out in Big Sur....
Nice, place; sore but happy... ;)
