Check the delltalk inspiron audio forums (http://delltalk.us.dell.com).
Many report that the problem has only slightly improved with the updated
BIOS. 

I just got rid of my Dell Laptop after nearly a Year of dealing with that
problem. Yes, it took them that long to even acknowledge that the so
called 'Fan Bug' even existed. I totally, TOTALLY do not recommend buying
a dell laptop. 

RME has done a wonderful job of rating laptops for audio usage. Check this
