SFMOMA:Ju-jikan Japanese Sound Festival
For those of you in San Francisco there is a program
of Japanese sound art this coming week at SFMOMA. I
don't think there will be any live performances, but
10 hours of recordings repeated in the theater:
SOUND FESTIVAL
September 22-30 Daily (except Wednesdays)
SFMOMA, Phyllis Wattis Theater, 151 Third Street
Reverberating within the Museum's walls this fall, is
a 10-hour program of contemporary Japanese sound art
that will run from September 22 through 30, 2001.
Selected by sound artist and performer Atau Tanaka, in
consultation with fellow practitioners, will present
a survey of sound experiments ranging from
hyperminimalist to extreme noise genres and will
include prominent figures of the Japanese scene such
as ryoji, i.d., Merzbow, Otomo and Aube. These
recorded sound pieces will play on a rotating basis
during regular Museum hours in the Phyllis Wattis
Theater.
Free with Museum admission. For a full program
schedule, visit http://www.sfmoma.org.
