Flussdichte is the 3rd collaborative work of Hamburg's Musique
Concrete eminence grise Asmus Tietchens and New York City feedback
meister David Lee Myers (formerly known as Arcane Device) after
1993's DBL_FDBK on Stille Andacht and 1996's Speiseleitung on Raum
312. Myers' feedback matrix sounds created with homemade machines and
computer are treated and arranged by Tietchens producing exremely
subtle tracks/soundscapes reminiscent of works by Tod Dockstader,
Microstoria or Nuno Canavarro.


....The first few tracks start out really slow, with just careful and
a handful of sounds on the palette, but as the CD evolves, the events
grow thicker and thicker and more happens. It culminates in the ninth
track in which everything seems to come together. Almost 14 minutes
in length of sizzling drones, which seem to be moving back and forth
in time. The nine tracks display very well the various possibilities
of feedback music, and also prove that feedback music can be done in
an intelligent way, removed from the noise scene. Most likely the
refined collaboration of the two until now.

....Myers fed his music to electro-acoustic artist Asmus Tietchens who
shaped it into strange soundscapes that could belong as much to Luc
Ferrari and Pierre Henry as to modern sound artists like Koji Asano
or Rafael Toral. Their soundscapes often hold a dark, almost Gothic
atmosphere -- the resonances of electronic cathedrals. Although
process-generated (at least in its initial stage), the music never
sounds like a calculated exercise. Each piece has been carefully
shaped, composed. The sound palette is varied, but always remains
close to vintage musique concrète....a dense, rich electrical flux,
sculpted with art. Recommended.

....From carnival confusion to galactic locales, Flussdichte is a disc
filled with tiny pictures. Tietchens and Myers compose these fleeting
yet vivid images without obvious gestures or strokes, evoking a
contemplative air. It's post-thunderstorm calm rather than
pre-thunderstorm threat.

....The album undergoes a marked progression in intensity and
complexity, but on the whole this music is calm and quiet, full of
subtleties and delicate shifts. With the term "feedback music" you
might automatically be thinking of densely layered noise, a chaotic
maelstrom of sound. But this album is far from the noise scene; quiet
drones, fluttering electronic sounds and playful textures are the
prominent features of this music. The finale is a phenomenal piece
from start to finish; I hang on every mysterious sound, every light
drone, every subtle change, until the very end. Tietchens and Myers
make an incredible match, and in Flussdichte they have created an
exciting new work that inspires an intense interest and fascination,
