Thanks! I haven't listened to that much of it yet. I'll go back for more
when I am in a receptive state.
"Surface"- coool ; the pieces that sound predominantly computer generated
are more my cup of tea.
This isn't a criticism of your musical endeavors ; more a comment on the
way tunes are put together. I find I am almost more interested in solo
instrumental pieces than groups. I like the idea of playing the best rock
song one can possibly imagine/no matter how weird, how normal, what tools ,
vocals etc., then composing something with completely different means and
leaving the results to layer, mingle , copulate and have children on their
own terms. The pieces are their own characters and making them can be as
natural and contradictory as taking a bath , travelling, eating and so
forth.
To me it seems that many recordings of songs or group
improvisations are ( by analogy) like taking a bath in a limo.
while eating a plate of prawns and having one's hair styled. It may be
luxurious and fulfill one's image of success , yet it's potentially
nauseating and perhaps unnecessary.
- seems there are so many ways to make bass tones , booms and crashes ,
choruses and couterpoint , and so many stages for human interaction( at so
many different volume levels) that a 'band' in the traditional sense may be
a kind of antiquated idea. On the other hand, the concept of a 'group';
playing , listening and creating its own scene seems to be almost a lost
art. There is probably a way to form a 'group' on a different level, perhaps
with interactive tools that aren't so clunky and dead-endish as those
currently employed.
Alot of what makes a rock star a rock star is being totally crazy and
totally ordinary and balancing the extremes socially. Often times rock stars
are destroyed by the press when that balance is thrown off. One thing that
is cool about this list is that one can sort of create one's own press (
safe and sane?)
Back to the subject of your music; it seems very utopian , and I am a
sucker for utopian concepts even if I don't get into them right away or
agree with everything presented.. .
Bill
(p.s. I hope you readers can 'stomach ' this and don't find it too boring)
