culture, aesthetics and books

so i'm starting some readings into culture, music and aesthetics.  i've
done some general reading in each area independantly, but am looking to
get more into the intersections between them.  presently i'm reading a
book by roger scurton called 'the aesthetics of music" which i'm having
quite a few objections to.  i know that adorno wrote "adorno on music"
but with his critique of jazz i wasn't highly impressed.  any
suggestions on some good books to get me started in this direction?
