midi controllers/doepfer pocket dial

hello all,

i've been desperately seeking info on this.  being a midi newbie does anyone 
know if i can use the doepfer pocket dial to send continuous midi info 
(incremental/decremental values) to vst effect parameters in cubase 
(ver4.1r1, mac os9.2).

i'm considering buying one of these to edit real time pluggo parameters 
along with the controls to some of my soft synths (specifically waldorf 
ppg).  oh, and being able to use it with a nord micro would be beneficial 
too...

while we're on the topic, does anyone have any better suggestions?  better 
controllers for the money?  i'm just tired of using the mouse for 
everything.  lookin' for knobs...
