That was a pleasure.  And on the Chron's website at that!  Then 
again, stranger things have happened in the paper we often call the 
Comical (although the Ex, with its "ew, gross" headlines, is rapidly 
stealing that title), for example the appearance of a seemingly lone 
dissenting voice in September of last year in the unlikely location 
of Jon Carroll's previously fluffy column at the back of the TV 
section.  Maybe there is some hope after all:  if the slap is hard 
enough, does the sleeper wake, or do the anaesthesiologists (in the 
next column) simply raise the dose?
