my reply to ms. x
hey,
i got an off list email from a party who was particularly
upset with some remarks i recently made to the list. i
tried to respond to her but received the following.
{
[auto-generated response from msx@xxxxxxxxxxxx]
Thank you for responding to my ad -- unfortunately, the
ad was placed over 6
months ago & I can't get it off the site.
peace,
ms X
}
since i apparently have no way to answer the charges
she's made against me {
Adults won't flame you, they'll just blacklist you.
I've gotten this email
forwarded to me from two different sources so far (with
annotations to the
effect of "watch out for this infant"), and I will do my
best to spread it
around.
}
i've really been left with no choice but to post my
response here.{
can i plead my case?
first of all, this email is being taken completely out of
context. it was sent to a relatively small sub-genre
electronic music mailing list with the intention of
sparking off a bit of lively discussion. i purposefully
exagerated a view point to draw commentary out on the
discussion list. i hoped that doing as much would help
the list, as well as the responder, to get a better idea
about the underlying thoughts and feelings existing on
the issue. these views could then be debated, openly.
as, however, there was merely one reply to this email, i
assumed that no one was inflamed enough to care. i
actually thought that perhaps i should've taken a more
overtly opinion to stir things up.
actually, i would be very interested in discussing, with
you, which portions of the email were particularly
offensive to you and why that was. please reply to this
email.
btw, black list me from what, exactly? and also, i'm not
sure why you would want to further circulate such a
poorly written email. obviously it was the work of ten
seconds and has no discernible point or argument. i mean,
don't we all get too much email anyway.
}
please pass this on to the proper party.
thanks.
