I've read a pretty substantial portion (a little from each section) and it
seems to me to be a very good overview of the various different granular
techniques that he and others have developed over the years. He says all the
things about granular synthesis and some other things that wouldn't fit in
the Tutorial.

As far referencing his own work, he has done a lot of work in the field, and
regarding granular synthesis, no one has done more. He does give credit
where it is due, particularly to Barry Truax.
Yes, it is a book about his work. Curtis told me the book is both a CD with
extensive technical liner notes, and a notebook of his explorations of the
techniques over the last decades. He says he's publishing it this way to see
what people will do with it, hoping that they can do more than he has.
It is full of technical stuff, but fluff it is not. It's worth reading if
you want to know the technical low-down on granular synthesis and about some
of its possibilities.
